Outreach

Not everyone can visit Wildwood in person, due to distance and costs, but we can come to you!

As part of the Saving Devon’s Native Crayfish Project, we are able to offer the below activities free to schools and community groups within the river Culm and river Creedy catchment areas. (Check the maps here to see if you are eligible).

Crazy about Crayfish workshop

We are offering a free workshop to learn about our only native species of crayfish. This can be delivered in-school or online. Learn about the crayfish lifecycle, habitat and classification. How is it different to a lobster? And why are they in decline? Understand why white-clawed crayfish are endangered, hear how Wildwood is helping, and how you can too! If there is access to a field or sports hall, the session can include playing a game to explain habitat threats and restoration.

Notes

In-school workshops are designed to be delivered to a class of ~30 pupils. Online workshops can be delivered to multiple classes.

Workshops last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour (they can be made shorter for younger ages if needed).

These sessions are aimed at primary school children. If you work with older years in the river catchments, please get in contact to discuss options.

At least one member of school staff must be present at all times during the session.

Discipline and good behaviour of the children remains the responsibility of the school staff.
