October Half Term
Fly back in time this October Half Term with a visit to our Saxon Village where you’ll discover an authentic taste of medieval life.
We’ll be celebrating the Saxon month of Winterfylleth (October) and the Pagan festival of Samhain (Halloween) with pumpkin carving, wand making, rune carving and tasty marshmallow toasting over the village fire.
There’ll be an invading Viking war party and the village will once again fall under the spell of the infamous Witch of Wildwood.
Living History Weekend – 23rd – 24th October
To help us celebrate Winterfylleth we’ll be joined by the brave villagers of Westencyn. They’ll be demonstrating a range of medieval costume, craft and culture. You’ll find out how our Saxon ancestors survived and thrived with wood and metal working making tools for building and hunting. You’ll see how they clothed themselves by spinning wool and weaving and learn about how they lived off the land foraging and gardening.
We’re also expecting a visit from a mostly friendly Viking war party who’ll be showing off their weapons and fighting skills in the village arena.
Half Term Activities * – 25th – 31st October
The Witch is back!
Once again the Witch of Wildwood will be taking up residence in the Saxon Village.
At periods throughout the day she’ll welcome only the bravest souls into her shack to help her cast a spell.
If she proves to be a bit too scary, the team in the village will be around to help you with rune carving, wand making, pumpkin carving and marshmallow toasting on the open fire with tales of how the Saxons and their animals prepared for and survived the harsh winter.
The Village will be open from 10am to 4:30pm – ask staff about times to visit the Witch!
*Some activities will entail a small charge for materials.
